Breaking News Alert! The New York Times Fri, March 12, 2010 -- 1:37 PM ET ----- White House Identifies 3 to Fill Vacancies on Federal Reserve Board Moving quickly to put its mark on the Federal Reserve, the White House on Friday identified two economists and a lawyer as its choices to fill all three vacancies on the central bank's board of governors. The economists are Janet L. Yellen, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, who is the top choice for vice chairman, and Peter A. Diamond, an M.I.T. economist who is an authority on Social Security, pensions and taxation. The lawyer, Sarah Bloom Raskin, is the Maryland commissioner of financial regulation. The Obama administration stopped short of saying that it would formally nominate all three to the Senate, stating only that Ms. Yellen was "a leading contender" and that Mr. Diamond and Ms. Raskin were "under consideration."
The Annual Power Tea attracts quite a crowd. It brings together women and men of influence from all over Montgomery County. It is also an opportunity to acknowledge outstanding women in Montgomery County with our Rising Star award and the newly created Shining Star award. This is an afternoon not to be missed.
The contact people for the Sixth Annual Power Tea which will be held in March 2010 are co-chairs Bev Denbo and Donna Barron.

ABOUT THE AWARD
The Phyllis Campbell Newsome “Rising Star” Award honors the life of a visionary community activist and a founding member of Montgomery Women. As a director of community advocacy for the Washington Council of Agencies, Phyllis Campbell Newsome bettered the life of countless Washington Area individuals and families.
She convinced nonprofit organizations, elected officials and front line social service agencies to put aside differences and consolidate resources. Under her guidance, coalitions formed with the resources and clout to make promises realities. Then, in 2002, Phyllis Campbell Newsome died, and a brilliant future was lost. Now, we honor Phyllis Campbell Newsome’s memory by recognizing a new Rising Star each year.

About the Award
The Shining Star Award honors two beloved founding members of Montgomery Women, Delegate Jane Lawton and County Council Member Marilyn Praisner. Both gave unsparingly of their talent, time, intellect and spirit of sisterhood. With their energy, expertise and persistence, they were “shining stars” of public service. They modeled and championed women’s full participation in public life. Jane and Marilyn passed away within three months of one another in late 2007 and early 2008. Montgomery Women has created the “Shining Star” Award in their memory. Each year, Montgomery Women will present the Shining Star Award to an outstanding woman leader who continues Jane and Marilyn’s legacy.
