The Montgomery Complete Care Coalition, of which MCNOW is a founding member, is calling for an ACTION on January 20, 2011.
This is the date the Maryland Health Care Commission is set to consider Chair Marilyn Moon’s recommendation of Holy Cross over Adventist as the new hospital in northern Montgomery County—and the first hospital to have been built in Maryland in thirty years. The MCCC disagrees with Moon’s recommendation because where Adventist would be able to provide a full range of health services, Holy Cross has their services limited by Catholic doctrine. Practically this means that the first hospital built in Maryland in 30 years will not be providing family planning counseling, contraceptive services, and abortion; will not offer full compliance with patients’ end-of-life wills; will not teach condom use to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDs; and will not guarantee respectful treatment of gay and lesbian partners and families. For more information, please http://completecarecoalition.wordpress.com/.
What we currently know about the meeting is based on the Health Commission home page which says, “Please note that there has been a change to the Commission meeting schedule. The January 20, 2011 meeting of the Commission will begin at 12:00 noon in Room 100 at the Commission's offices (4160 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland).”
The MCCC is planning a press conference in front of the building at 11:30. We are hoping some MCNOW members will join in that and then attend the Commission meeting. IF WE FAIL TO TURN OUT, we are in effect saying that this bad decision is no big deal to us. This is an occasion where our presence really matters. PLEASE JOIN US.
