I work with a DC-based non-profit called CommonHealth ACTION. Through our associated Institute for Public Health Innovation we are working with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services on the Healthy Montgomery Project. It’s a county-wide process to set priorities and take action to improve the health and quality of life of all county residents. 5 non-profit hospitals in the county and a leadership committee of 25 people are also involved, chaired by County Councilman George Leventhal. The Healthy Montgomery process includes interactive public discussions – called Community Conversations – through which county residents can share their views on how to make their community a healthier place to live. It’s really important that residents’ voices are heard, so the process doesn’t rely solely on statistics that don’t tell the full story. As Chair of Montgomery Women I wanted to reach out personally to invite you and your members to our upcoming Community Conversations. Including the voices of women is an important part of the Healthy Montgomery project, and we would love to see the members of your fantastic organization participate in the process. We have four Community Conversations coming up, covering different areas of the county: · East Montgomery: Tuesday May 10, 7-9pm, at the Eastern County Regional Services Center, Silver Spring Upcounty: Wednesday May 11, 7-8:30pm, at the Upcounty Regional Services Center, Germantown Bethesda/Chevy Chase: Tuesday May 17, 7-9pm, at the Bethesda –Chevy Chase Regional Services Center Mid-County: Thursday May 19, 6:30-9pm, at the Mid-County Regional Services Center, Wheaton (Spanish language facilitation will be provided) Food will be served and seating may be limited, so if you or any members of Montgomery Women are able to attend the closest Community Conversation we ask that they email admin@commonhealthaction.org to RSVP. This is a fantastic opportunity for the members of Montgomery Women to let the county know what’s important to them and their community. If you have any questions or if I can help in any way, please let me now. http://www.commonhealthaction.org/ Thank you, Madeline Cooper | |
