June 8, 2011 Lunch The Chesapeake Bay TMDL… How will your Project be Affected? The Chesapeake Bay TMDL is EPA's program to restore the Chesapeake Bay by 2025. Its implementation is going to affect everyone living in the Bay watershed, from farmers in Richmond to homeowners in Cooperstown and everyone in between. Members of the real estate industry will need to know how this issue will affect their project and how to navigate the TMDL process in order to emerge with a successful project. Join two knowledgeable industry experts who will lead us through the maze.
Dusty Rood, Vice President at Rodgers Consulting, Inc. will advise on what the TMDL will mean for the real estate industry, focusing on project specific issues using case studies.
Tom Farasy, President of Terra Verde Communities, Inc. will outline what the building industry has accomplished proactively to move forward with fair and effective concepts to restore the Bay, while pushing back on ineffective and inequitable policies and regulations. National Center for Children and Families 9th Annual Art & Soul Charity Benefit Auction CREW Maryland Suburban members will be volunteering at the National Center for Children and Families’ 9th Annual Art & Soul Charity Benefit Auction, to be held on the evening of Friday, June 3rd from 6-10 pm (volunteers begin at 5 pm) at the Silver Spring Civic Building (One Veterans Plaza). As many of you know, we have partnered with the National Center for Children and Families (NCCF), located right in Bethesda on Greentree Road, in the past. NCCF’s primary function is to help create total, healthy living environments for vulnerable children, youth, and families in the area. NCCF holds an Art & Soul Charity Benefit Auction each year, to help raise money to support their many initiatives. The 9th Annual event is being held on Friday, June 3rd, and CREW will be volunteering to help staff the event and work at sign-in and check-out. This should be a fun opportunity for everyone – including volunteers – as in addition to volunteering and helping this important cause, we’ll be able to view the artwork created by youth and the community that is on display and hear live music.
Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County – Women Build 2011 In an effort to bring women together, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Maryland, Inc. has launched the Women Build 2011 program. This partnership gives women in the community the opportunity to help change the life of a low-income family by raising funds to rehabilitate a distressed home and turn it into one that is simple, decent, and affordable. This winter, women from the Montgomery County community began fundraising for the rehabilitation of a vacant, distressed home. CREW Maryland Suburban will be joining this fundraising initiative. It is our goal to raise $1000 in the next several months for the Women Build 2011 program. We then plan to participate in a build-day at the site of the home being rehabilitated. We have already begun collecting donations towards our goal of raising $1000, and will continue collecting at future events until we have reached our goal. Please consider donating to this initiative! If you have any questions or would like to volunteer or contribute to the above service activities, please contact Heather Dlhopolsky of Linowes and Blocher LLP at 301-961-5270 or hdlhopolsky@linowes-law.com.
