Power Tea Updates, letter to our members. 

Dear MW Members, 

I hope the first month of 2018 has been a happy and healthy one. 

I am writing to you today about the Power Tea. You will soon receive a RSVP email for our signature event celebrating women's leadership. This year it will be on March 11.

As you know, 2018 is an election year. This means that we will have a bumper crop of candidates and elected officials who want to attend. You may not know, however, that our attendance is limited at Strathmore. It is the only one of our events where we have to worry about how many people want to be there.

In recent years, we have had a continuing problem with members who say they will attend but do not actually show up. Easy to do since members get in free, so why not just RSVP and then see if you are in the mood when the time comes to get to Strathmore. But this creates all sorts of problems for us. The Power Tea is our most expensive event by far. We pay a per person cost for each person who RSVP's, whether or not that attendee actually shows up. 

We want to make sure that all our members who want to attend the Power Tea can be there. I'd hate to have to turn anyone away, but we have had to do this in past years. And I'm sure you would agree that we also want candidates to be able to attend so we can get to know them better. I'm excited that many of our own members are candidates this year. 

Your dues entitle you to come to the Power Tea at no charge. That will not change this year, as long as members RSVP before the event. However, if members show up at the door without an RSVP, you will be charged $40. Guests will still be charged $50 if they sign up in advance and $60 at the door. And, for the first time, members who RSVP and then fail to come will receive an invoice from us for $40. 

The Board regrets that we must take this step. Certainly most of our members who RSVP for the tea do come, but almost 20% do not. We face the possibility of a space crunch this year, and that's why I'm calling on you to help us out.
