Shining Star Award Nomination Criteria
The nominee should be a woman who is an outstanding leader, who has modeled and championed women’s full participation in public life, and who has motivated others to greater accomplishments.
Members should consider the following criteria in nominating an individual:
ORIGINS OF THE SHINING STAR AWARD
The Shining Star Award honors and memorializes two beloved founding members of Montgomery Women, Delegate Jane Lawton and County Council Member Marilyn Praisner. With their energy, expertise and persistence, they were “shining stars” of public service. Montgomery Women presents the Shining Star Award annually to an outstanding woman leader who continues their legacies.
GENERAL CRITERIA FOR BOTH AWARDS
The nominee should be a woman who is an outstanding leader, who has modeled and championed women’s full participation in public life, and who has motivated others to greater accomplishments.
Members should consider the following criteria in nominating an individual:
- The nominee is generally recognized as a woman of accomplishment in the Montgomery County community over a significant or sustained time period.
- The nominee has a history of performing above and beyond her duties in her professional and/or volunteer activities, should have made significant impact, and have a full body of accomplishments.
- The nominee’s activities have positively affected the Montgomery County community in community or public service.
- The nominee has shown outstanding leadership and is a model for others.
- The nominee lives and/or works in Montgomery County.

- Diversity should be considered.
- Awardee must be present to accept the award at the Montgomery Women Power Tea and make short acceptance remarks.
- Nominations must be made by Montgomery Women members in good standing.
- Nominees need not be members of Montgomery Women.

- Application deadline is November 15, 2019. However, applications are accepted throughout the year.
